Fall Sensory-Friendly Concert

Join us for an engaging and interactive concert experience in a relaxed environment where all audience members are welcome to be who they are while enjoying music with family and friends. This concert takes place in the Target Atrium, where patrons can see and hear the instruments up close and ask questions in a more intimate setting. Hosted by Lyndie Walker, MT-BC from Toneworks Music Therapy Services, this program features a Minnesota Orchestra musician and talented guest artists from the community.

The Minnesota Orchestra’s Sensory-Friendly small ensemble concerts are inclusive experiences for patrons of all ages, including individuals with autism or sensory sensitivities.

Fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, quiet spaces and a pre-visit story are available at all Sensory-Friendly Concerts. Stand-alone chairs provide for flexible seating and open space is available for those who wish to sit on the floor or move around the room.
Lyndie Walker, MT-BC, is the Owner and a Board-Certified Music Therapist at Toneworks Music Therapy Services, LLC. She received a double Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance and Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota. Lyndie works as both a music therapist and adaptive lesson teacher with individuals of all ages and abilities in both group and individual settings. She frequently presents on topics such as music therapy and community experiences, building inclusive music environments in public schools, and collaborative experiences with women-owned small businesses.
As an avid supporter of neurodiversity and self-advocates, she hosts Sensory Friendly Atrium Concerts with the Minnesota Orchestra, and directs “Art for All” an inclusive summer art and music camp.
A native of Minneapolis, Michael Sutton joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1997. He performed Martinů’s Three Madrigals with violist Kenneth Freed at a 2007 chamber music concert, and he has appeared on Sommerfest programs playing chamber music with pianist William Wolfram and violinist Pekka Kuusisto. In addition performing to in Minnesota Orchestra programs, he is concertmaster of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, a post he accepted in fall 2014. He also is a faculty member at the MacPhail Center for Music and a violin coach for the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies.
Sutton earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Raphael Bronstein and Ariana Bronne. There he received the Kortschak Award for Chamber Music and the Bauer Award for Outstanding Accomplishment.
