Chamber Music in the Hall
Sun Jan 12, 2025
Orchestra Hall
Spend your Sunday afternoon with Minnesota Orchestra musicians in this wide-ranging chamber music program, including works by Francis Poulenc, Arnold Schoenberg and more. Plus, a nod to Carl Nielsen with his Serenata in Vano, as we continue our Nordic Soundscapes Festival.
A Few Things to Know
- “Two people walk through a bare, cold grove; The moon races along with them, they look into it.” This is how German writer Richard Dehmel’s tender poem begins, setting the scene for what inspired one of Arnold Schoenberg’s most luminous, shimmering works for string sextet.
- Rebecca Clarke was a skilled violist and one of the first women to join the Queen’s Hall Orchestra in London in 1912.
- Emmy-nominated American composer Anthony Barfield’s production company, Velocity Music Inc, has worked with artists such as Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, and scored multiple independent films. Gravity for Brass Quintet is based on Langston Hughes’ poem, A Dream Deferred.
