A Few Things to Know
- Poet Walt Whitman was enamored by Beethoven’s Septet, describing the expansive, innovative chamber work as easy as “nature laughing on a hillside in sunshine.”
- Philip Glass’ String Quartet No. 3 is an arrangement of the composer’s score to the 1985 film Mishima, a haunting, award-winning drama produced by George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.
- Violinist and composer Gabriella Smith is an outdoor enthusiast whose music is meant to inspire joy in nature and advocate for climate action. In addition to her many travels abroad, she spent five years volunteering for a songbird research project.
- Violinist James Ehnes is a chamber music aficionado as well as a beloved friend to many Minnesota Orchestra musicians. He often joins Orchestra members for chamber music performances when he is in town.
