Color of Music

Grades 3-6

Tue Nov 29 — Thu Dec 1, 2022

Orchestra Hall

Just as painters use many colors in visual art, composers draw on an immense palette—all four instrument families’ huge range of instrumental colors. Khachaturian’s Sabre Dance calls for large forces, so its hues are different from the brass-and-percussion rule of Copland’s dramatic Fanfare for the Common Man. Different again is Coleridge-Taylor’s use of strings in his dance-like Four Novelletten. This concert will feature YPSCA Young People’s Concerto Competition winner, cellist Dennis Eum, as soloist.
