Grant’s Pick: BRKFST Performs “Dancers, Dreamers and Presidents”
Can’t decide on your next concert? Why not take a suggestion from one of the Orchestra’s own? From the extraordinary musicians on stage to the staff, volunteers and board members working behind the scenes, we all have personal favorites in the upcoming calendar. Director of Live at Orchestra Hall Grant Meachum has a summer pick for you: BRKFST Dance Company’s performances on July 21 and 22.
There is perhaps no one who has more energy, positivity and optimism on our administrative staff than Grant. He is a performing arts innovator who came to Minnesota from the scene in New York City. In his more than eight years in Minneapolis, he has made fast friends with favorite local performers like Dessa, Nur-D and BRKFST Dance Company. Grant can’t wait for next month’s Summer at Orchestra Hall festival, which will feature BRKFST as its artist in residence. Their performances on July 21 and 22—in which the collective will present the world premiere of their complete choreography to Daniel Bernard Roumain’s powerful Dancers, Dreamers and Presidents—is his pick for the summer:
"What I love about Summer at Orchestra Hall are the opportunities to branch out—to take a look at our Grammy-winning Orchestra and say, 'Wait, what if we tried THIS?' When I first saw BRKFST Dance Company in 2020, Joe Tran was spinning on his head within the first 10 minutes, which immediately triggered my 'Let’s try THIS!' switch. This summer is all about motion—and the combined motion of our amazing Minnesota Orchestra and the incomparable breakers of BRKFST Dance Company is one you won’t want to miss."
