Write Your Own Music

Screenshot from Toneworks Music Therapy video

Join Lyndie and Shelby from Toneworks Music Therapy Services to discover how you can make unique music with objects found around your home.

This activity is inspired by our American Voices Young People’s Concert Experience, which features a variety of composers and styles. Visit the American Voices concert curriculum to learn more about the composers’ lives and musical influences. Then download the composition worksheet and get ready to express your own voice through music!

Watch the video above to explore different ways of notating your music, and think about which everyday objects you could use to create your own composition at home. Then watch the following video to see Lyndie and Shelby complete their composition worksheet and perform their original piece, “A Walk in the Snow.”
