Gao Hong Returns for "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
In 2022, pipa player Gao Hong made her debut with the Minnesota Orchestra, giving the world premiere of her pipa concerto Guangxi Impression as part of our Lunar New Year celebration concert. On July 28 and 29, she returns as a soloist alongside Principal Cello Anthony Ross to perform Tan Dun's iconic score to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon live to film.
Before you come see the film, get to know Gao Hong and her instrument, the pipa. Subscribers to our Digital Concert Hall can watch her entire performance for Guangxi Impression here.
It's my great honor to play the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon score live with the amazing Minnesota Orchestra. I have always admired Tan Dun and have had the honor of working with him and playing his music on many occasions. I am especially excited about the award-winning Ang Lee film, as history was made in 2001 when Tan Dun became the first Chinese composer to win both an Academy Award and a Grammy for his remarkable score.”
