Four New Programs Added to 2022 Calendar

The Minnesota Orchestra has expanded its current season with the addition of four new programs. In March and April, the Orchestra’s Symphony in 60 concerts return with two newly designed classical concerts. In June, the Indigo Girls also return to Orchestra Hall for live performances with the full Orchestra; and in August, Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall Sarah Hicks will lead the ensemble in musical and movie selections from both the original 1940 and 2000 film versions of Disney’s Fantasia.

The first Symphony in 60 program, conducted by David Afkham, takes place on Tuesday, March 29, and features Richard Strauss’ Don Juan, Anton Webern’s Passacaglia and Robert Schumann’s Fourth Symphony. Then, on Wednesday, April 13, conductor Thomas Søndergård leads the Orchestra in Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements, and Claude Debussy’s La Mer. Symphony in 60 concerts are about one hour in length, feature an earlier start time of 7 p.m., specially curated pre-concert activities and a $5 happy hour.

In June, the Indigo Girls return to Orchestra Hall for the first time since their sold-out performance in February 2019. The Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Michelle Merrill, will perform along with the Grammy Award-winning folk rock duo on Friday, June 24, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, June 25, at 8 p.m., at Orchestra Hall.

Disney – Fantasia Live in Concert was originally scheduled for the Summer 2020 and was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. These performances have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 2 p.m. Sarah Hicks, the Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, will lead the Orchestra in a performance of musical selections as the film is shown on a large screen above the stage.
