Mahler 9 CD
Conductor: Osmo Vänskä
Repertoire: Mahler Symphony No. 9
The Minnesota Orchestra, under the direction of Osmo Vänskä, presents what many consider to be the pinnacle of the Austrian composer’s entire output, his Ninth and final completed symphony. Often regarded as Mahler’s monumental—both in terms of scale and emotional scope—farewell to the world, the Ninth Symphony can also be understood as a requiem for his daughter who died a few years before, an acknowledgment of the transience of life, a memorial to Vienna, an evocation of fading Austrian and Bohemian landscapes, and an homage to a vanishing European cultural world.
The symphony was recorded at Orchestra Hall in February 2022.
This recording is one of those special listening experiences where the world afterwards is a different place.”
