Marni J. Hougham
Oboe and English Horn, John Gilman Ordway Chair
Marni J. Hougham joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1997, taking the John Gilman Ordway Chair for English horn. In 2011 and 2006 she was featured in performances of Sibelius’ The Swan of Tuonela, both times under the baton of Osmo Vänskä; she performed and recorded the work with the Orchestra earlier under Eiji Oue. In October 2008 she was a soloist in performances of Copland’s Quiet City under the direction of Sarah Hicks.
A Los Angeles native, Hougham studied with William Criss at the University of Southern California. She has often been a guest player with the Los Angeles Philharmonic; she has also served as assistant principal oboe/English horn of the San Antonio Symphony and was a member of the New World Symphony from 1990 to 1993. Additionally, she has played with the Cape Town Opera and Ballet Orchestra, Joffrey Ballet, Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and Honolulu Symphony.
