Jacquelyn Wagner is in high demand by such prestigious opera houses and festivals as the Paris Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, the Zurich Opera House, the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Salzburg Festival.
With her "lovely clean and focused sound" (The New York Times), "silvery tone", "a natural dignity and vocal command that" make her performances "highly impressive" (Opera News), the American soprano is enjoying resounding success in such different repertoire as Mozart, Handel, Verdi and Puccini, with a special focus on the German Fach and the iconic jugendlich-dramatische roles by Wagner, Strauss and Weber.
The 2021/22 season takes the artist to the Volksoper in Vienna as 'Marschallin'/"Der Rosenkavalier", to the Easter Festival in Salzburg as /"Lohengrin" (Christian Thielemann), to Hamburg as 'Rosalinde'/"Die Fledermaus" and 'Leonore'/"Fidelio", to concerts at the Bruckner Festival in Linz, to Innsbruck for her role debut of 'Salome' in a new production (director: Angela Denoke) and to the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago as 'Magda'/”La Rondine”. Future projects include her return to Deutsche Oper Berlin, Zurich, Theater an der Wien, etc.
The 2020/21 season included Brahms "Ein deutsches Requiem" at the Brucknerfest Linz with Christoph von Dohnányi and Alice Ford in a new production of "Falstaff" at Malmö Opera, and Beethoven 9 with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott. Other role debuts such as Tatjana/Eugen Onegin and various concerts unfortunately had to be cancelled due to Corona. In the summer of 2021, the artist made her debut in Aix-en-Provence, where she appeared on stage as Contessa in a new production of "Le nozze di Figaro".
Performances in 2019/20 included her house debut at the Zurich Opera as Agathe in "Der Freischütz", where she also starred in the title role of "Arabella", her first Elsa in "Lohengrin" at the Felsenreitschule Salzburg, her debut in the title role of Handel’s "Alcina" in a new production at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Rosalinde in "Die Fledermaus" at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Engagements on the concert platform led her to the Vienna Konzerthaus and to the Paris Philharmonic Hall with the Wiener Symphoniker conducted by Philippe Jordan. Appearances as Fiordiligi in "Così fan tutte" and Donna Anna in "Don Giovanni" at the Paris Opéra Garnier were cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
In the 2018/19 season, Jacquelyn Wagner appeared in concerts with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in Munich and Paris, followed by her outstanding success as Euryanthe in a new production at the Theater an der Wien and as Eva in "Die Meistersinger" von Nürnberg at the Salzburg Easter Festival conducted by Christian Thielemann. The season also brought her back to the Paris Opera for a new production of "Don Giovanni" (Donna Anna).
Other recent highlights include her portrayal of Alice in "Falstaff" at the Vlaamse Opera, followed by her role debut as Leonore in "Fidelio" at Theater St. Gallen, at the Teatro alla Scala of Milan and the Semperoper Dresden, her role debut as Marschallin in "Der Rosenkavalier" as well as various concerts, such as Strauss‘ "Vier Letzte Lieder" at both the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and Orchesta sinfónica de Tenerife.
A milestone of her career was her sensational success as Arabella in a new production at De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, a role she also interpreted at the Minnesota Opera as well as at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf.
This was quickly followed by her debut at the Paris Opera, where she sang Pamina in "Die Zauberflöte" and Fiordiligi in "Così fan tutte", her Eva in "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" at the Teatro alla Scala, Verdi’s "Giovanna d’Arco" in Bonn, Vitellia in "La clemenza di Tito" at the Opéra National du Rhin, a concert performance of "Feuersnot" / Diemut in New York Carnegie Hall, Contessa in "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Staatsoper in Hamburg, Mimì in "La bohème" at the Opera Cologne, Donna Anna at the Munich State Opera, Desdemona in "Otello" at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. She also returned as Donna Anna in "Don Giovanni" and Violetta in "La Traviata" to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she had begun her career first as a scholership holder and later as an ensemble member, singing a wide range of repertoire.
Guest engagements also led her to the Oper Frankfurt (Contessa), as Donna Anna to Miami, as Fiordiligi to the Semperoper Dresden, the Grand Théâtre de Génève, the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp and the Opéra de Marseille, in concerts and as Contessa to Tokyo and Nagoya, as Gutrune in "Götterdämmerung" to the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona.
Jacquelyn Wagner studied at the Manhattan School of Music and at the Oakland University of Michigan and won numerous international competitions like the 'International Voice Competition Francisco Vinas', the 'Voice Competition Renata Tebaldi' and the 'Panasonic Voice Competition' in New York in Alice Tully Hall. She got special mention at the 'Palm Beach Opera Competition junior division' two years in a row, and was twice a recipient of the 'Jenny Lind Society Scholarship'. She is also a recipient of a 'Fulbright Study Grant'.
