Conductor: Osmo Vänskä
Minnesota Orchestra

BIS SACD 1716
Release: 2007

Repertoire:
Symphony No.1 in C major
Symphony No.6 in F major, Pastoral

The fourth CD in Music Director Osmo Vänskä and the Minnesota Orchestra's acclaimed Beethoven symphonies cycle is an album that includes the genesis of Beethoven's symphonic output (his First Symphony) as well as his nature-inspired Sixth (Pastoral) Symphony. The new album is part of a five-disc set of the complete Beethoven symphonies.

Vänskä and the Orchestra recorded the First and Sixth Symphonies at Minneapolis' Orchestra Hall in sessions during June 2007. The BIS team, led by Producer Rob Suff, recorded the album as a Super Audio CD (SACD), using surround sound recording technology to reproduce the sound of the concert hall as faithfully as possible.

The new CD follows three highly-praised predecessors in the series, which The New York Times wrote "may be the definitive [Beethoven cycle] of our time" and The New Yorker described as including "some of the most vivid Beethoven playing on the market."
