What could Johannes Brahms’ First Symphony and Radiohead’s groundbreaking 1997 album, OK Computer, have in common? More than you might think. Composer Steve Hackman’s genre-bending fusion, composed for full orchestra and three solo vocalists, offers a reimagined experience of each work through the lens of the other.
A Few Things to Know
- Radiohead's Third: OK Computer, released in 1997, marked Radiohead's third studio record and its introspective and eclectic nature indicated the English band was charting a new sonic course.
- The blueprint for the finale of Brahms' First Symphony was jotted down on a card he sent to close friend Clara Schumann. It wasn't until 1876 (8 years later) that the symphony was finished and received its premiere.
- Brahms x Radiohead is an entry into SYMPHONYFUSE, a series of orchestral fusion shows composer Steve Hackman has arranged and composed. Other entries include Resurrection Mixtape (Mahler X Notorious BIG X Tupac Shakur) and recently premiered Beethoven X Beyoncé.
