Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra
with Wynton MarsalisTue Oct 13, 2026
Orchestra Hall
This performance is part of Wynton Marsalis’ final season as Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center and Music Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
“Technically precise and emotionally charged,” the ensemble has been praised for its “versatility and deep understanding of jazz traditions” (The Wall Street Journal), while working hard to preserve the genre for the present day — performing everything from new commissions to masterworks by artists like Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk.
Please note: The Minnesota Orchestra does not perform on this program.
Artists
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), comprising 15 of the finest jazz soloists and ensemble players today—and joined on its 2022 Big Band Holiday tour by vocalists Dianne Reeves and Samara Joy—has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center resident orchestra since 1988 and spends over a third of the year on tour across the world. This remarkably versatile orchestra performs and leads educational events in New York, across the U.S. and around the globe in all type of venues and with symphony orchestras—including the Minnesota Orchestra in September 2022 performances of Wynton Marsalis’ Swing Symphony—ballet troupes, local students and an ever-expanding roster of guest artists.
Wynton Marsalis is an internationally acclaimed musician, composer, bandleader, educator and a leading advocate of American culture. He is the world’s first jazz artist to perform and compose across the full jazz spectrum from its New Orleans roots to bebop to modern jazz. By creating and performing an expansive range of brilliant new music for quartets to big bands, chamber music ensembles to symphony orchestras, tap dance to ballet, Wynton has expanded the vocabulary for jazz and created a vital body of work that places him among the world’s finest musicians and composers.
