Sergey Khachatryan was 15 when he became the youngest-ever winner of the International Sibelius Competition. Now a seasoned professional, he’ll play Tchaikovsky for his Minnesota Orchestra debut. John Corigliano believes that music enables us to keep the people we’ve lost alive in our thoughts. This deeply personal symphony, composed when the AIDS epidemic was rampant, explores the excess of rage and the tenderness of remembrance.

The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to commissioning and performing the music of our time. In September 2025, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his third season as music director.
"Dynamic and sharp on the podium" (Bachtrack) and with an "extreme clarity of purpose, every detail worth noting" (Los Angeles Times), Hannu Lintu maintains his reputation as one of the world's finest conductors. This season Lintu continues his tenures as music director of Orquestra Gulbenkian and chief conductor of Finnish National Opera and Ballet, proving himself a master of both symphonic and operatic repertoire, as well as beginning his tenures as artistic partner of the Lahti Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the International Sibelius Festival.
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Sergey Khachatryan won First Prize at the VIII International Jean Sibelius Competition in Helsinki in 2000, becoming the youngest-ever winner in the history of the competition. In 2005 he claimed First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
