Tao Plays Beethoven
Fri May 30 — Sat May 31, 2025
Orchestra Hall
We regret to share that pianist Alice Sara Ott has had to withdraw from this weekend’s May 30-31 performances due to acute tendonitis, and we wish her all the best in her recuperation. We are pleased to welcome instead pianist Conrad Tao in his Minnesota Orchestra debut. He will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, rather than the previously slated Third Piano Concerto. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
A Few Things to Know
- Conrad Tao’s 2024/25 season includes a return to Carnegie Hall in recital, as well as appearances with the San Francisco Symphony, the Dallas Symphony and St. Louis Symphony. Last season he made his subscription debut with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and reunited with the New York Philharmonic. We look forward to welcoming him to Minnesota.
- At 32 years old, Jonathon Heyward, who recently began his tenure as music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, is currently the youngest music director of any major U.S. orchestra.

Artists
The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to intentionally build concert programs to feature more works by composers of color, exploring music both contemporary and historic. In September 2024, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his second season as music director.
Jonathon Heyward is forging a career as one of the most exciting conductors on the international scene. He currently serves as music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, having made his debut with BSO in March 2022 in three performances that included the first-ever performance of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 15. From summer 2024, Heyward will become Renée and Robert Belfer Music Director of Lincoln Center’s Summer Orchestra. This appointment follows a highly acclaimed Lincoln Center debut with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in summer 2022 as part of its Summer for the City festival.
Pianist and composer Conrad Tao has been dubbed “the kind of musician who is shaping the future of classical music” by New York Magazine, and an artist of “probing intellect and open-hearted vision” by The New York Times.
