PROGRAM CHANGE:
In light of the circumstances in our community right now, the program will open with the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, instead of Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Also on the program, Principal Viola Rebecca Albers performs the U.S. premiere of Donghoon Shin’s Threadsuns Concerto for Viola and Orchestra, a work she describes as about “the existence of hope in a desolate landscape.” Watch the video below to hear her perspective on this new work.

Artists
The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to commissioning and performing the music of our time. In September 2025, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his third season as music director.
The 2025-26 season marks Fabien Gabel’s first as chief conductor of the Tonkünstler-Orchester, Niederösterreich. He has established an international career of the highest caliber. Praised for his dynamic style and sensitive approach to the score, he is best known for his eclectic choice of repertoire, ranging from core symphonic works to championing lesser-known composers of the 19th and the 20th century. He also highlights contemporary works and has conducted the premiere performances of pieces by Dieter Amman, Andres Hillborg and Samy Moussa.
Rebecca Albers joined the Minnesota Orchestra as assistant principal viola in 2010 and won the position of principal viola in 2017. She has performed throughout the United States, Asia and Europe, making her New York debut at Lincoln Center, performing the New York premiere of Samuel Adler’s Viola Concerto with the Juilliard Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, she performs often at such festivals as the Marlboro Music Festival, Seattle Chamber Music Society Summer and Winter Festivals, and Rome Chamber Music Festival.
Albers is a member of Accordo, a Twin Cities-based chamber ensemble whose members are present and former principal players from the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra. She has toured extensively with Musicians from Marlboro and with the Albers Trio, an ensemble formed with her sisters Laura and Julie Albers, and has been featured on many of the Orchestra’s chamber concerts, performing music by Schumann, Beethoven, Dvořák and Schubert.
