Beethoven Fifth Symphony
Thu Oct 16 — Sat Oct 18, 2025
Orchestra Hall
The last time the affable Andrew Manze led the Minnesota Orchestra, he turned to the audience and said, “There are three kinds of conductors. Those who can count, and those who can’t.” (Yes, three—that’s his joke!) It’s clear that he belongs in the first category, so we’ve asked him back to conduct Beethoven’s seminal Fifth Symphony and a multi-faceted piano concerto by Anna Clyne.
These concerts, open to all, are dedicated to the generosity of our donors.

Artists
The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to intentionally build concert programs to feature more works by composers of color, exploring music both contemporary and historic. In September 2024, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his second season as music director.
Andrew Manze is widely celebrated as one of the most stimulating and inspirational conductors of his generation. His extensive and scholarly knowledge of the repertoire, together with his boundless energy and warmth, mark him out. He held the position of chief conductor of the NDR Radiophilharmonie in Hannover from 2014 until 2023. Since 2018, he has been principal guest conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
The pianist Elisabeth Brauss has been praised by Gramophone magazine for “the maturity and sophistication of her thoughtful interpretations” which “would be the pride of any pianist twice her age.” Born in Hannover in 1995, Brauss is quickly establishing herself as one of the most exciting and versatile musicians of her generation.
