Bartók X Björk is an exploration of the avant-garde and adventurous, synthesizing the music of two of the 20th century’s most ingenious musicians. Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra is fused with the music of Björk selected from her first three albums, including songs like "Human Behaviour," "Hyperballad" and "Army of Me." These two composers from different genres are beloved for similar reasons: their radical and colorful musical language, extremes of emotional expression and thrilling modernism. Underscoring the fusion are the parallels between the narrative context of Bartók’s Concerto and the subjects of Björk’s songs. Three virtuoso female solo vocalists join the full orchestra.

The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to commissioning and performing the music of our time. In September 2025, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his third season as music director.
Composer, arranger, producer, songwriter, conductor and pianist Steve Hackman is the musical polymath at the center of the most exciting productions in the orchestral space. Whether writing for the concert stage or screen, collaborating with today’s most compelling artists, or contributing to the Oscars and Emmys, Hackman is becoming the first call original voice shaping today’s most important musical events, scores and concerts. He has collaborated with Jon Batiste, Charlie Puth, Lizzo, RZA, Wyclef Jean, Steve Lacy, Doja Kat, Moses Sumney, Kanye West (on the opera Mary), and most recently with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo on the Wicked TV special for NBC.
Hailing from the green mountains of Vermont, Erin Bentlage is a two-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music blurs the lines between song, improvisation and soundscape. Raised near Burlington, she first found expression through ballet and classical piano before discovering her voice in jazz and the freedom of improvisation. Bentlage’s sound threads through contemporary music—featured on projects by Jacob Collier (Djesse Vol. 3), Kiefer (When There’s Love Around), Kate McGarry (What To Wear In The Dark), Steve Hackman (The Brink), Amber Navran (Golden Light) and an upcoming Moonchild record. As a writer and arranger, Bentlage creates for the voice in all its forms, from cinematic choral textures and major motion picture scores to intimate, layered vocals for artists including and alongside Jacob Collier, Moonchild and Pomplamoose.
India Carney is a multi-talented solo artist with a wide-range of dynamic performing experience. At home with audiences across the country and abroad, Carney’s original music features a mix of her classical, pop, R&B, a cappella, and theatrical influences. Carney’s versatility shines through her work as a soloist or in collaboration, whether as singer, songwriter, arranger, actress or vocal coach. With an already strong foundation as a social media influencer, Carney’s fans watched her launch on an international scale when she competed as a Top 5 Artist on Season 8 of NBC’s Emmy award winning series, The Voice.
Malia Civetz has performed across the U.S. and Europe in Steve Hackman’s symphonic mashups for the past 10 years. You can see her in Beethoven v. Coldplay, Beethoven X Beyoncé, Tchaikovsky X Drake, Skull & Bones and Bartok X Bjork. Civetz, a Los Angeles-based recording artist and Warner Chappell published songwriter, has been in the industry since graduating from the USC’s Thornton School of Music’s Popular Music Program. Post-college, she linked up with powerhouse songwriters, Ross Golan and JKash, signing to their newly created Friends With Pens. She initially made waves with the independent single Champagne Clouds. Ryan Seacrest debuted the track on his radio show on KIIS FM and quickly the song surpassed 20M streams and made Taylor Swift’s “Favorite Songs” playlists on both Apple Music and Spotify.
