Don’t miss these two put it all together backed by the Minnesota Orchestra for an amazing night of orchestral indie rock.
Things to know
- Talk about a hot ticket: the first staging of this duo's orchestral show with the National Symphony Orchestra came with such high anticipation that it sold out in a pre-sale before their availability to the general public.
- Ben Rector is the youngest person to ever win the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He won the prize for his song "Conversation" in 2006 when he was just 20 years old.
- Cody Fry received his first Grammy nomination in 2020 with a stunning cover of the Beatles' Eleanor Rigby.
The Grammy Award-winning Minnesota Orchestra, now in its second century, ranks among America’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in its home state and around the world; award-winning recordings, broadcasts and educational engagement programs; and a commitment to intentionally build concert programs to feature more works by composers of color, exploring music both contemporary and historic. In September 2024, Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård began his second season as music director.
Sarah Hicks is the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, a role in which she oversees planning for and conducts many concerts in the broad-spectrum series of popular music, jazz, Broadway classics, movie scores and other genres. She also conducted the Inside the Classics and Sam & Sarah series for ten seasons.
After the life-changing viral TikTok success of his song “I Hear a Symphony,” Cody Fry has embarked on a new creative journey with Symphony Sessions, a sweeping orchestral collection of new songs, new arrangements of old songs, and live videos featuring his signature widescreen approach to pop music. His bombastic cover of “Eleanor Rigby” was recently nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals.
With over one billion streams, indie superstar Ben Rector released his newest album Color Up My World with Hailey Whitters in March 2024, following on the heels of his album The Joy of Music in March 2022. The latter album features several notable collaborations, including award-winning rapper Snoop Dogg, Grammy Award-winner and legendary musician Dave Koz, iconic jazz musician Kenny G and Taylor Goldsmith from folk rock band Dawes, as well as the YouTube sensation One Voice Children’s Choir.
