About this Concert:

The evening opens with a dramatic showcase of Shiloh Temple singers, dancers and choirs offering celebratory Christmas music, followed by a full performance of Dvořák’s New World Symphony, among other works, led by Roderick Cox and featuring the Minnesota Orchestra.

More Details:

  • Roderick Cox was named the Minnesota Orchestra’s associate conductor in September 2016 after one full season as assistant conductor. A native of Macon, Georgia, Cox earned a master of music degree in conducting from Northwestern University in Illinois.
  • Dvořák wrote his Ninth Symphony while visiting America; his influences were the wide expanse of the Midwest prairie, and the songs of Native and African Americans.
  • Dvořák visited Minnehaha Falls on his American travels, jotting down a tune that came to him on his shirt cuff because he had no paper.
  • The evening concludes with a sing-along performance of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah.
  • Tickets are free and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note: First half is approximately 60 minutes. The Orchestra will perform at approximately 6:30pm, after a 30-minute intermission.
