Our Student Ambassadors have chosen this concert as the season’s first Campus Night. You’re invited to join your Ambassador hosts and fellow students for a world-class Minnesota Orchestra performance plus exclusive pre- and post-concert activities, created especially for students and held in the Target Atrium, including a chance to meet Orchestra musicians!

Tickets will be held at the Box Office and require one valid student ID per two tickets purchased.

  • Dvořák wrote his Ninth while visiting America; his influences were the wide expanse of the Midwest prairie, and the songs of Native and African Americans.
  • Dvořák visited Minnehaha Falls on his American travels, jotting down a tune that came to him on his shirt cuff because he had no paper.
  • Neil Armstrong took a recording of Dvořák’s Ninth on the 1969 Apollo 11 moon-landing mission.
  • Copland’s Lincoln Portrait contains moving excerpts of our 16th president’s Gettysburg Address.
  • Walter Cronkite, Julius Erving (“Dr. J.”), Tom Hanks, and James Taylor have all done the honors as narrator in Lincoln Portrait.

Where: N. Bud Grossman Mezzanine
Students are invited to arrive early and stay late to win prizes at Orchestra Toss, play a musical virtual reality game by Glitch and join a special post-concert meet and greet. Visit the check-in table to plan your night and receive a special discount with your student ID!

Join Philip Gainsley, Justice Alan Page and Roderick Cox for an informative and entertaining look at the concert repertoire and themes. This 30-minute concert preview is free; however, a concert ticket is required for entry.

Enjoy vocal and guitar music performed by students from the University of Minnesota's Music Therapy Student Association. No ticket required!
