  • Ravel’s ballet contains a passage that depicts a glorious sunrise.
  • John Adams was inspired to write Scheherazade.2 after visiting an art exhibit in Paris.
  • Leila Josefowicz earned her high school diploma and a Bachelor of Music degree in the same year; and when she was 31, a MacArthur (“genius”) Award. Her father is a physicist, her mother a biologist.  
  • Josefowicz is known in the music world for her fearlessness in new violin pieces, many of them written for her fiery, sensual style of playing.
