The program also shines a spotlight on the astonishing range and virtuosity of soloists within the Orchestra. Capping the cast is Gilbert Varga, one of the Orchestra’s favorite guest conductors. This fiery British-Hungarian has his own surprises up his sleeve, including Martin’s brilliant Concerto, and Honegger’s Second, marked by the tragedies of war but ending in triumph.
