Fun Facts

  • Copland first knew he wanted to be a composer at age 15, so he began studying harmony, theory and composition with Rubin Goldmark, a teacher and composer who had briefly taught George Gershwin.
  • Composer Artie Shaw and his orchestra performed his concerto for clarinet in the Fred Astaire film Second Chorus, a biopic of Shaw’s life.

Student Immigration Experiences Exhibit

When: Pre-concert and Post-concert
Where: Roberta Mann Grand Foyer
This exhibition features original artworks by Saint Paul Public Schools LEAP High School students, created as part of a partnership program with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) and the Tenement Museum in New York City. Guided by teachers Jill Michell and Anne Lowe, the students shared their own stories of immigration through art-making and writing.
