Cellist Sachiya Isomura, a native of Japan, studied at the Julliard School in New York and the Toho School of Music in Tokyo. Before joining the Minnesota Orchestra in 1979, he performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. His many international performances include the World Cello Congress held in St. Petersburg in 1997 led by Mstislav Rostropovich, the Salzburg Festival in 2000 and 2004, and several times with the Saito Kinen Orchestra at the invitation of Seiji Ozawa in Matsumoto, Japan.
Isomura has performed chamber music at numerous Orchestra concerts, most recently playing Mendelssohn’s piano trio in February 2016. He also served as faculty at the University of Northwestern-St Paul for 15 years. In December 2017, he will retire from his position in the cello section after 38 years of performances with the Minnesota Orchestra.
