Associate Concertmaster, Frederick B. Wells Chair
Violinist Felicity James joined the Minnesota Orchestra as Associate Concertmaster at the age of twenty-two, and has since lead the ensemble as concertmaster in performances of many of the great masterworks, including Verdi’s Requiem, symphonies by Beethoven, Schubert and Dvorak, and more intimate works including Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round for string orchestra.
Ms. James previously served as concertmaster of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, the Colburn Orchestra, and the Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra, and she has also played with the Seattle Symphony and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras all over the United States, including the Minnesota Orchestra under the baton of music director Osmo Vänskä and the Seattle Symphony under the baton of former music director Ludovic Morlot. A recent highlight includes a performance of Astor Piazzolla’s Verano Porteño from the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires with the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Hicks.
An enthusiastic chamber musician, James has performed frequently in ensembles at the Verbier, Sarasota and Aspen Music Festivals as well as the Colburn Chamber Music Society, the Los Angeles Da Camera Society, and the Minnesota Orchestra’s Chamber Music Series.
Ms. James earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Robert Lipsett and worked closely with Arnold Steinhardt and Clive Greensmith.
