Alex Sopp is a flutist, singer, composer and visual artist living in Brooklyn, New York. As a singer and a songwriter, her debut album of original songs, The Hem & The Haw, was released on New Amsterdam Records. She is the flutist and founding member of yMusic, The Knights, Between Worlds Ensemble and NOW Ensemble. She has played principal flute in the New York Philharmonic and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and has premiered solo works written for her by Allison Loggins-Hull, Judd Greenstein, Nico Muhly and Gabriel Kahane. Performing iconic vocal lines and whistle solos, Sopp toured the world with yMusic in support of their album with Paul Simon. Her unique visual artwork has been used by musicians such as Osvaldo Golijov and Joshua Bell and cutting-edge organizations like Castle of Our Skins to bring their projects to life. Her appearance alongside Chris Thile this summer marks her Minnesota Orchestra debut.
