Minnesota Orchestra presents Star Trek Into Darkness in Concert

Concerts feature composer Michael Giacchino’s complete score from Star Trek Into Darkness performed live to picture by the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Hicks


On March 29 and 30, 2019, the Minnesota Orchestra will present Star Trek Into Darkness, featuring screenings of the complete 2013 film with Grammy-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s score performed live. These concerts will be led by Sarah Hicks, Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. Star Trek Into Darkness stars Chris Pine in the role of Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock and Benedict Cumberbatch as the villainous Khan. The film also features original Star Trek cast member Leonard Nimoy in his final appearance as Ambassador Spock before the actor’s death in 2015. Since its release in 2013, Star Trek Into Darkness has become the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history.

These performances are held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis, on Friday, March 29, 2019, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 8 p.m., with tickets priced from $30 to $91. Sarah Hicks, conductor
Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the 2018-19 season she leads the Orchestra in performances with Dessa, the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club, Indigo Girls and Igudesman & Joo, as well as the Inside the Classics series and film music concerts of Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars: A New Hope, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Jurassic Park. Michael Giacchino, composer
Michael Giacchino is one of the best-known and most successful composers working in Hollywood today. He has scored popular and acclaimed films such as Inside Out, Jurassic World, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Zootopia, Rogue One, Doctor Strange and the three most recent Star Trek films. His score for the 2009 Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe and two Grammy Awards, among other honors. Most recently he has composed scores for Spider-Man: Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, Coco, Incredibles 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Bad Times at the El Royale, as well as the upcoming release Spider-Man: Far From Home
