Minnesota Orchestra and Cirque de la Symphonie perform "Cirque Goes to the Movies"

Touring ensemble performs acrobatic stunts and high-flying feats onstage and above the musicians as the Minnesota Orchestra performs music from the movies; Sarah Hicks conducts

On May 18 and 19, Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall Sarah Hicks leads the Minnesota Orchestra as they are joined by the performers of Cirque de la Symphonie, a touring group of aerialists, acrobats, contortionists, jugglers and strongmen who have created programs especially for live performance with symphonic orchestras. Cirque de la Symphonie performed at Orchestra Hall in 2016 and returns this season for a movie-themed event, featuring high-flying acrobatics paired with some of Hollywood’s best musical moments by composers including Ennio Morricone, John Williams, James Horner, Randy Newman, Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer.

The concerts are performed at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Friday, May 18, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, May 19, at 2 p.m. Ticket availability is limited for these concerts. More information is available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656.  For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.

Cirque de la Symphonie
Cirque de la Symphonie is an acrobatic troupe that brings the magic of cirque to the concert hall. Its performers include world record holders, gold-medal winners of international competitions and Olympians. Each performance is choreographed to classical masterpieces, and uniquely adapted to accommodate a shared stage with orchestras, adding a striking visual element to the concert experience. The ensemble has performed with more than 100 orchestras around the world in sold-out venues. More: cirquedelasymphonie.com.

Sarah Hicks, conductor
Sarah Hicks has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the newly announced 2018-19 season she will lead the Orchestra in performances with Dessa, the U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club, Indigo Girls and Igudesman & Joo, as well as the Inside the Classics series and film music concerts of Star Wars, Jurassic Park and Star Trek Into Darkness. Away from Orchestra Hall, this season she debuted with the Calgary Symphony and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. More: minnesotaorchestra.org.
