jeremy messersmith

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, and raised in rural Washington, singer-songwriter jeremy messersmith began playing music in church at a young age, and counts Sandi Patti, Carman, DC Talk and Michael W. Smith amongst his earliest musical influences. He began his musical training on the trumpet, then turned to the guitar as his instrument of choice, eventually relocating to Minneapolis to study music. A thoughtful, clever lyricist with a tender voice, messersmith crafts songs that are catchy and relatable, and span the emotional gamut from poignancy to whimsy. His second album, Late Stage Capitalism, will be released in March 2018 on Glassnote Records. More: jeremymessersmith.com.

“Sounds of the Cinema”

Inspired by the popularity of the Minnesota Orchestra’s Movies & Music series presenting popular movies with the soundtrack performed live, the 2018 Symphony Ball, Sounds of the Cinema, celebrates the magic of music in the movies. Music Director Osmo Vänskä will conduct the Orchestra in a performance of music from the most memorable moments in movie history across a range of genres, plus a special performance by Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter jeremy messersmith. Following the full Orchestra concert, messersmith will also perform a solo set in the auditorium at Orchestra Hall.

This 62nd-annual Ball, which is the Orchestra’s most significant annual fundraising event, is chaired by Lloyd and Karen Kepple, with Honorary Chairs Dr. Stanley and Luella Goldberg.

Since 1956, the annual Symphony Ball has raised millions of dollars in support of the Minnesota Orchestra, its musicians and education programs.
