Minnesota Orchestra presents Home Alone In Concert with Minnesota Boychoir and Sarah Hicks, Nov. 29 and 29

Minnesota Orchestra performs John Williams’ score live as the complete film is shown on screen

Sarah Hicks conducts the Orchestra and the Minnesota Boychoir in concerts celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Home Alone

The Minnesota Orchestra begins the holiday season with Thanksgiving weekend screenings of Home Alone, the classic holiday comedy, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Led by Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, the Orchestra will play John Williams’ Academy Award® -nominated score live as the complete film is shown in HD on a large screen. The Minnesota Boychoir will join the Orchestra onstage to sing carols featured in the film. In Home Alone, Macaulay Culkin stars as a resourceful 8-year-old who outwits a pair of burglars while having been mistakenly left at home at Christmas time.

The event is held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, November 28, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 29, at 2 p.m., with tickets priced from $30 to $80. The Film
Distributed by 20th Century Fox, Home Alone was written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Chris Columbus. It was released in 1990 and was the highest-grossing live action comedy film for more than two decades. The score, composed by John Williams, was nominated for an Academy Award® for Best Original Score. In addition, the film also received a nomination for Best Original Song, “Somewhere in My Memory,” with music composed by Williams and lyrics written by Leslie Bricusse. The cast of Home Alone includes Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard and Catherine O’Hara.

John Williams, composer
John Williams is one of America’s most accomplished composers for both films and the concert stage. He has composed scores and served as music director for more than 100 films, including all seven Star Wars films and three Harry Potter films. His 40-year partnership with director Steven Spielberg has resulted in many of Hollywood’s most successful films, and his contributions to TV music include themes for NBC Nightly News, NBC’s Meet the Press and PBS’ Great Performances. He has also composed themes for three summer and one winter Olympic Games. Among his honors are five Academy Awards®, 49 Oscar® nominations and 21 Grammys®. In 2009, he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences; he has also received the National Medal of Arts, the highest award given to artists by the U.S. government. He served as Music Director of the Boston Pops Orchestra for 14 seasons, and is currently its Laureate Conductor.

Sarah Hicks. conductor
Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the 2015-16 season she leads the Orchestra in performances with Ben Folds, Rajaton, Pink Martini and Cirque de la Symphonie, among other artists, as well as Inside the Classics concerts, film music and Scandinavian Christmas concerts. Minnesota Boychoir
The Minnesota Boychoir, now in its 54th season, and directed by Mark S. Johnson, is the oldest continually operating boys choir in the Twin Cities. Its reputation for excellence has brought invitations from local and national music conventions, as well as sporting events and touring Broadway companies. The choir has performed with such ensembles as the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, and the Prague Philharmonic. The Boychoir has traveled to five continents, with recent tours including performances at Sydney’s Opera House and Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. More:
