The Minnesota Orchestra opens its 2017-18 Live at Orchestra Hall series, featuring genres from popular music and jazz to Broadway classics and movie scores, with performances of LA LA LAND in Concert on September 30 and October 1. Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, leads the Orchestra in live performances of the entire Academy Award®-winning score by composer Justin Hurwitz, as the complete film is shown on a large screen above the Orchestra. Written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, Lionsgate’s global phenomenon La La Land grossed nearly $450 million at the worldwide box office and won six Academy Awards® earlier this year.
The performances are held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, September 30, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, October 1, at 2 p.m., with tickets priced from $35 to $90. Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the 2017-18 season, she will conduct Orchestra performances with Leslie Odom, Jr., Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Pink Martini, Cloud Cult and Cirque de la Symphonie, as well as the film music concerts including La La Land, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Little Mermaid and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Away from Orchestra Hall, she has recently conducted the San Francisco Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and San Diego Symphony, and debuted with the major orchestras in Melbourne, Brisbane, Montreal, Toronto and Lisbon.
