Ellis Hall Performs with the Minnesota Orchestra for One Night Only, May 6

Pianist-vocalist Ellis Hall performs music of Ray Charles, Motown and more, with the Minnesota Orchestra; Sarah Hicks conducts


On Saturday, May 6, pianist-vocalist Ellis Hall performs onstage with the Minnesota Orchestra, under the direction of Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. A protégé of Ray Charles and the former lead singer of Tower of Power, Hall will sing his own greatest hits along with Motown classics and Ray Charles favorites including I Heard it Through the Grapevine, Hit the Road Jack and Georgia on My Mind.

The performance is held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, May 6, at 8 p.m., with tickets priced from $35 to $75. Ellis Hall
Ellis Hall is an accomplished pianist, songwriter, arranger, producer, educator and vocalist with a powerful five-octave singing range. Across a career of 40-plus years, he has proven himself as an all-around performer who has entertained audiences on five continents, sharing stages with giants ranging from James Taylor, Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle and Toby Keith to Herbie Hancock, George Benson, Bobby Womack, George Duke and Sheila E. His reputation of excellence has earned him the moniker “The Ambassador of Soul.” Hall has also worked as a session musician and was a featured artist on records with artists such as John Klemmer, Carl Anderson, Larry Dunn and Kenny G, and has recorded songs for live action and animated films such as The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, Shrek 2, Chicken Run, Invincible and Bruce Almighty. Sarah Hicks, conductor
Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the upcoming 2017-18 season, she will conduct Orchestra performances with Leslie Odom, Jr., Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, Pink Martini, Cloud Cult and Cirque de la Symphonie, as well as the film music concerts including La La Land, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Little Mermaid and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets™. Away from Orchestra Hall, she has recently conducted the San Francisco Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and San Diego Symphony, and debuted with the Dallas Symphony, Nashville Symphony and Toronto Symphony.
