On the third weekend in December, conductor-trumpeter Doc Severinsen, the Minnesota Orchestra’s beloved pops conductor laureate, performs his ever-popular “Jingle Bell Doc” program of holiday favorites and new arrangements. He conducts the Orchestra, the Minnesota Chorale and additional performers in concerts on December 16 and 17. The same weekend, Sarah Hicks leads the Minnesota Orchestra in live performances on December 17 and 18 of It’s a Wonderful Life. This classic film is projected on the big screen as the Orchestra provides a live performance of Dimitri Tiomkin’s heartwarming score.
The performances of Jingle Bell Doc take place on Friday, December 16, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, December 17, at 1 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $75. The performances of It’s a Wonderful Life In Concert are held on Saturday, December 17, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 18, at 2 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $80.

Jingle Bell Doc
Legendary conductor-trumpeter Doc Severinsen—beloved nationally for his 25-year tenure as bandleader on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson—was the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal pops conductor from 1993 to 2007 and now serves as pops conductor laureate. He leads the Orchestra, the Minnesota Chorale, vocalists Vanessa Thomas and Joseph Wolverton, a spirited rhythm section, and local handbell ensemble Twin Cities Bronze in a delightful program that includes a variety of favorite holiday music.

It’s A Wonderful Life In Concert
It's a Wonderful Life, the treasured 1946 film directed by Frank Capra, and starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and has been a beloved holiday movie for 70 years. Generations of audiences have been uplifted by the classic tale of businessman George Bailey and the life-affirming lessons he learns on Christmas Eve with the help of his guardian angel. Dimitri Tiomkin, who composed the score performed in these concerts, was one of the most distinguished music writers of Hollywood, earning four Oscars and 22 Academy Award nominations. In addition to It’s a Wonderful Life, he collaborated with Frank Capra on films such as You Can’t Take It With You, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Meet John Doe.
While the film is projected on a large screen above the stage, Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, conducts the Orchestra in the complete score. Joining them onstage is the Minnesota Chorale, whose artistic director is Kathy Saltzman Romey.
