The Minnesota Orchestra Performs the Best of the Beatles in Concerts with Vocal Group Rajaton, March 12 and 13

 

Finnish vocal ensemble Rajaton performs two concerts of the greatest Beatles hits with the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Hicks


On March 12 and 13, Finnish vocal group Rajaton performs a dynamite show at Orchestra Hall, joined by the Minnesota Orchestra and Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. These performances are filled with the Beatles’ greatest hits, beginning with Rajaton’s one-of-a-kind take on the complete Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. The second half of the program features a selection of number one hits including Penny Lane, She Loves You and Hey Jude.

The concerts will be held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m., with tickets priced from $25 to $60. Rajaton, vocal ensemble

Finnish vocal ensemble Rajaton, founded in Helsinki in 1997, includes sopranos Essi Wuorela and Virpi Moskari, alto Soila Sariola, tenor Hannu Lepola, baritone Ahti Paunu and bass Jussi Chydenius. The group performed their a cappella program at Orchestra Hall in 2010 and has also presented concerts in collaboration with the Minnesota Orchestra, singing the music of ABBA and the British rock band Queen. Rajaton has released 15 different albums, the most recent of which were released through the group's own record label, Boundless Records. In 2016, the ensemble celebrates 19 years of music-making with one double platinum, three platinum and eight gold records in Finland. More: rajaton.net/en.

Sarah Hicks, conductor

Sarah Hicks, the Minnesota Orchestra’s principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, has led a broad range of programs since joining the Orchestra as assistant conductor in 2006. During the 2015-16 season she leads the Orchestra in performances with Ben Folds, Pink Martini and Cirque de la Symphonie, among other artists, as well as Inside the Classics concerts, film music, Musical Feast and Scandinavian Christmas concerts. In 2011 she toured with British rock icon Sting, leading 31 concerts over two months in venues throughout Europe. More: minnesotaorchestra.org.
