Minnesota Orchestra Performs - Disney In Concert: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, October 30 and 31

Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, leads performances of Danny Elfman’s score from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas as the animated film is shown on the big screen

On Halloween weekend, the Minnesota Orchestra presents Disney In Concert: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, performing Danny Elfman’s original score live as the complete animated film is shown on a large screen. Based on an original story written by Tim Burton, The Nightmare Before Christmas has been a favorite for children and adults alike since its release in 1993. Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall, conducts the Orchestra; on screen, Pumpkin King Jack Skellington upends the peaceful, harmonious Christmastown with his ghoulish tricks and treats in this macabre mashup of Halloween and Christmas. These performances are recommended for ages 13 and over.

The performances are held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Friday, October 30, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, October 31, at 8 p.m., with tickets priced from $30 to $80.  Tickets are available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656.  For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.

The Film
Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is a stop-motion musical film, produced and conceived by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Based on a poem written by Burton in 1982, the film was released by Touchstone Pictures in 1993 and has been re-released by Disney Pictures several times since. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s beloved Pumpkin King, as he stumbles into Christmastown while out walking through the woods. Through a series of misadventures and fantastical characters, Jack kidnaps Santa Claus and attempts to take over Christmas and give it a Halloween twist. The film score was composed by Danny Elfman, who provides the singing voice for Jack Skellington and other characters. The voice cast also includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O’Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page, Paul Reubens and Glenn Shadix.
