Affectionately referred to by Elton John as "the greatest songwriter on the planet" and praised by The New York Times for his "genuine originality," Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. He is the son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and brother of Martha Wainwright, but this brilliantly talented young artist has carved out his own singular sound in the worlds of rock, opera, theatre, dance and film.
This summer, $1 from every ticket sold on Rufus Wainwright's American tour will go to the Kate McGarrigle Fund. As an inspirational tribute to the wonderful care that she received in her hometown of Montreal, Canada, Kate McGarrigle established the Kate McGarrigle Fund, a not-for-profit partner of the Cedars Cancer Institute and the MUHC Foundation.
Please note: The Minnesota Orchestra does not perform on this program. Martha Wainwright will perform from 8-8:30pm followed by a 15-minute intermission. Rufus will perform his new CD, All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu from 8:50-9:45pm, followed by a 20-minute intermission. He will return to the stage and perform a selection of favorites from 10:05-11pm.
