The world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, an assemblage of 15 star soloists led by jazz master Wynton Marsalis, is hailed as “an extraordinarily versatile orchestra” by the Los Angeles Times. Playing an amazing repertoire of timeless jazz masterpieces and brilliant original compositions, this spring concert features works inspired by the visual arts, including selections from a new suite, Portrait in Seven Shades, composed by JLCO reedman Ted Nash. Nash’s suite consists of seven movements, each inspired by a master of modern art who worked in the century around the apex of jazz: Chagall, Dalí, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, Pollock and Van Gogh. The band will also perform tunes by jazz greats Count Basie, Mary Lou Williams and others.
Please note: The Minnesota Orchestra does not perform on this program.
