one-minute notes
Walton:
Suite from
Henry V
From the superb music
Walton wrote for Laurence
Olivier’s famous film
Henry V,
Muir Matheson
extracted a 25-minute suite
that communicates the
story’s heroism, charm and
complexity. Adding drama
to these performances is
narration by a Shakespearean
actor, penned by the Bard
himself.
Bruckner:
Symphony No. 4,
Romantic
Bruckner’s
Romantic
Symphony begins with a
horn’s announcement of
daybreak that reappears in
various guises throughout
the work. A melancholy
march is at the heart of
the second movement; the
third is a vigorous scherzo
on a hunting theme. In the
epic finale, a triumphant
coda takes us on a thrilling
harmonic journey.
