Philip Cutlip
, baritone
(Eisenstein)
Baritone Philip Cutlip has garnered
acclaim for his performances with
orchestras and opera companies in the
U.S. and abroad. He last appeared with
the Minnesota Orchestra at Sommerfest
2011, performing Beethoven’s Ninth
Symphony. Local audiences have also
heard him in performances with the
Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and
Minnesota Opera. Among highlights of
his current season are singing Stanley in
Previn’s
A Streetcar Named Desire
with
Opera Grand Rapids and performing
as soloist in Handel’s
Apollo e Dafne
with Music of the Baroque Chorus and
Orchestra. Other recent and upcoming
engagements include performances
with the Philharmonia Baroque
Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony,
Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra,
Virginia Opera and New York City
Opera. His international credits include
singing Mattieux in
Andrea Chenier
at
the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.
His performance as Joseph de Rocher
in Heggie’s
Dead Man Walking
was
released on Virgin Records.

Sarah Lawrence
, soprano
(Adele)
Sarah Lawrence, now welcomed
for her Minnesota Orchestra debut,
was recently seen as Norina in the
Lyric Opera of the North production
of Donizetti’s
Don Pasquale.
This
season she also sang in concert with
the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra,
performed Mozart’s C-minor Mass
with the Duluth Superior Symphony
Orchestra and appeared at an art
installation by John Preus at the Hyde
Park Art Center in Chicago. She has
performed with symphonies from
Madison to Omaha to Boise in both
classical and popular repertoire. In
addition, she has appeared with such
opera companies as Madison Opera,
Skylark Opera, Light Opera Oklahoma,
Opera Omaha and Lyric Opera of the
North, of which she is co-general artistic
director. Among the music theater roles
she has performed is Christine Daaé in
a national tour of
The Phantom of the
Opera

Robb Asklof
, tenor

Robb Asklof has performed in many
Minnesota Orchestra concerts since
2008, including several Scandinavian
Christmas programs and, during
Sommerfest 2011, Strauss’
Der
Rosenkavalier
. He has also been heard
locally with the Minnesota Opera and
Skylark Opera; across the U.S. he has
performed with the Atlanta Symphony,
Chautauqua Opera, Cincinnati Opera,
Fargo-Moorhead Opera, Orlando
Opera, Santa Fe Opera and Western
Plains Opera, among other companies
and ensembles. He has also appeared
at Lincoln Center for the Performing
Arts. Among the roles he has sung
are Etienne in Herbert’s
Mademoiselle

, Alfredo in Verdi’s
La Traviata

Jenik in Smetana’s
The Bartered Bride
and Eric in Libby Larsen’s

Barbara Shirvis
, soprano

Soprano Barbara Shirvis performs
regularly on opera, concert and recital
stages across the U.S. She last
performed with the Minnesota Orchestra
at Sommerfest 2010, singing the title
role in Puccini’s
Tosca
. This season
she is a soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth
Symphony with both the North Carolina
Symphony and Wichita Symphony,
the latter of which also features her in
Vaughan Williams’
Serenade to Music
;
she also sings Countess Almaviva
in
The Marriage of Figaro
with the
Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
Her past successes include singing
Rosalinde in
Die Fledermaus
with
Hawaii Opera Theatre; performing
numerous opera and concert works
with the Jacksonville Symphony;
and appearing with companies and
orchestras including Kentucky Opera,
Toledo Opera, Cleveland Opera, New
York City Opera, San Diego Opera,
Dallas Symphony Orchestra and
American Symphony Opera, the latter
at Avery Fisher Hall. She often performs
recitals with baritone Stephen Powell,
