Yan Pascal Tortelier
,
conductor
French conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier
enjoys a distinguished career as a
guest conductor with the world’s
most prestigious orchestras. He
last appeared with the Minnesota
Orchestra in 2011, leading a program
that included his own full-orchestra
arrangement of Ravel’s Trio for piano,
violin and cello.
Currently:
Among his recent and
upcoming engagements are a tour of
China with the London Philharmonic
and tours of South America and Europe
with the São Paulo Symphony. He also
leads concerts with such orchestras as
the Dresden Philharmonic, Pittsburgh
Symphony, Bournemouth Symphony
and Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Tortelier was chief
conductor of the BBC Philharmonic for
11 seasons and is now the ensemble’s
conductor emeritus. Upon concluding
a tenure as principal conductor of the
São Paulo Symphony in 2011, he was
named its guest conductor of honor.

include a recent disc of Ravel and Debussy
works with pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.

Audrey Luna, now welcomed for her
Minnesota Orchestra debut, has won
international acclaim as Ariel in Adès’
The Tempest
. She is featured on the
Metropolitan Opera’s DVD of that work,
which garnered a French Diapason d’Or,
as well as the Grammy Award-winning CD.
Current season:
She returns to the
Met as Fiakermilli in Strauss’
Arabella
and to Pittsburgh Opera as Queen of
the Night in
The Magic Flute
. She also
debuts with Opéra de Montréal in the
title role of
Lakmé
; sings Zerbinetta in
Strauss’
Ariadne auf Naxos
with Virginia
Opera and Madame Mao in Adams’
Nixon in China
with Ireland’s Wide
Open Opera; and sings scenes from
The Tempest
with the San Francisco
Symphony.
Recently:
Luna has enjoyed success
as Zerbinetta (Tanglewood, Fort
Worth Opera), Queen of the Night
(Utah Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago),
Madame Mao (Lyric Opera of Kansas
City) and other major operatic roles,
and in many symphonic performances,
including
Carmina burana
(National
Philharmonic).
