VFW Concert
Getting an early start on the Memorial Day
weekend, brass musicians from the Minnesota
Orchestra shared an evening performance with
members of the Willmar-area VFW Post 1639
on Wednesday.
l
The ensemble performed
works including Mouret’s Rondeau, “America
the Beautiful” and the “Armed Forces Salute” to
a gathered crowd of veterans and community
members. “I’m going to go home and get out
my trumpet,” declared one young audience
member.
Becker Market Performance
Despite a rain that had persisted during the
day, skies lightened and residents turned out
in good number for an Orchestra string quartet
performance at the site of the Becker Farmers
Market.
l
Residents enjoyed the outdoor
concert event while dining on sweet and
savory delights from the surrounding
community. The concert served to kick off the
weekly market, which officially began in June.
Jazz n’ Java Café
Across town at Jazz n’ Java Café, a capacity
crowd was in attendance for a concert by a jazz
quartet featuring Minnesota Orchestra
musicians Charles Lazarus, Dave Williamson,
Peter Kogan and Willmar legend Ron
Hagemeyer.
l
With some sipping coffee and
others enjoying supper, the audience
experienced a treat of a program ranging from
Gershwin to Hancock. As is Thursday night
tradition at Jazz n’ Java, the evening’s event
closed with a community sing-along.
