In April 2000 the Minnesota Orchestra performed the world premiere of the cello version of Aaron Jay Kernis' Colored Field, a work originally written for English horn. Conducted by Eiji Oue and featuring soloist Truls Mørk, that performance was recorded live by Virgin Classics for release on this album. Aaron Jay Kernis serves as the new music advisor of the Minnesota Orchestra.
