Brian Mount joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1997 and was named principal percussion in 1999. He was featured with percussion section colleagues in May 2008 performances of Bizet’s Carmen Suite, with Osmo Vänskä conducting.
Mount has performed in chamber ensembles at several Orchestra concerts, most recently performing Colgrass’ Variations for Viola and Four Drums at Sommerfest 2003.
A graduate of Indiana University, he studied at the Tanglewood Music Festival and earned a master’s degree from Philadelphia’s Temple University. Mount became principal percussionist of the Honolulu Symphony upon graduation and held the post for four years. He has also performed with the National Repertory Orchestra.
Mount lives in Plymouth with his wife Jill, a former music librarian with the Orchestra, and their two children, Dean and Leili.
