Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra—hailed by the Chicago Tribune as “the greatest large jazz ensemble working today”—is led by Wynton Marsalis and includes 14 additional accomplished musicians. Founded in 1988, JLCO has toured five continents, performing traditional jazz repertoire as well as newly commissioned works by Marsalis, Benny Carter, Christian McBride and other notable talents. In recent years the ensemble has performed with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, London Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic.

JLCO has launched youth-oriented initiatives including a family concert series—Jazz for Young People—and the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival, and now reaches more than 100,000 young people through its educational programs. Its weekly radio series, Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio, won the prestigious Peabody Award in 1997. JLCO has been featured on numerous national television broadcasts and a dozen CDs, most recently Congo Square, released in 2007.

JLCO’s home venue, the Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City, is the world’s first education, performance and broadcast facility devoted entirely to jazz. For more details, visit jalc.org.
