Description

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with WAMSO for the Target Free Family Concert with the Minnesota Orchestra lobby activities for the upcoming World Music concert on Saturday, January 28, 2012.

When to Arrive at Orchestra Hall
The volunteer training session begins promptly at 12:15pm, so please plan to arrive by 12:00pm to allow time for parking. You should expect to be at the Hall from 12:15-2:00pm. As a thank you, WAMSO will have tickets for the 2pm concert available to each volunteer.

Where to Go for the Event
Orchestra Hall is located on 11th Street between Marquette Avenue and Nicollet Mall. You can park in any parking ramp you would like. WAMSO recommends the Leamington Transit Hub Ramp, located on 11th Street and 3rd Avenue, which has skyway access.

Enter the Orchestra Hall through the front lobby doors and the Cargill Room will be available to store volunteer belongings. Bottled water will also be available.

What to Do During the Pre-concert Activities
During the training session you will be assigned to one of the three learning stations. If you prefer a certain position, please let WAMSO know and they will do our best to accommodate you. During the training session you will also receive instrument information and other details you will need for the station you are assigned. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be an expert on instruments, WAMSO will teach you what you need to know!

Sound Factory: Showing children how to play different instruments (string or percussion) and telling them the fun facts about the instruments. This is very hands-on for children.

Instrument Parts Department: At this station WAMSO has deconstructed instruments (wind, string, and brass, depending on the concert) and children learn how to put them together and learn about the function/ purpose of each part of the instrument.

Exploration Station: This station teaches about the art of conducting. Children and parents will have the opportunity to practice conducting three different beat patterns, as well as conducting recorded music. This station may also include a reed section, demonstrating the sounds that reeds make and how to make their own reed at home.
