We open the season with the high-energy syncopation and smoky riffs of America's original art form, jazz—in a dramatic new jazz concerto by Minnesota's own Stephen Paulus and his son, acclaimed jazz trumpeter Greg Paulus. Joining Osmo Vänskä, Greg Paulus and the Orchestra onstage are the members of Fat Kid Wednesdays, the extraordinary local combo known for improvisational wizardry and smooth, agile collaborations with countless jazz greats. Ravel's Boléro and Adams' Fearful Symmetries, both with powerful rhythms and more than a tinge of jazz, round out this most exciting program.
