The Argentinian pianist Ingrid Fliter dazzled Orchestra Hall audiences in her debut two seasons ago. We welcome her return for a performance of Schumann's Concerto—a work demanding both powerful athleticism and poetic tenderness. This blend of strength and sweetness also bookends Schumann, first in Elgar's sun–soaked overture In the South, written when the composer shook off London's damp for Italy, and finally in Walton's big-hearted Symphony No. 1.
