The Orchestra's principal cellist, Anthony Ross, is noted for his annual concerto appearances, giving superb performances of Elgar, Schumann, Dvorák and others. Now Ross performs the ultimate test of a cellist's mastery: Prokofiev's Sinfonia concertante, written for Mstislav Rostropovich, one of the most gifted cellists of all time. This all-Russian program finishes with the heartbreaking beauty of Tchaikovsky's final music, the Symphony No. 6.
Musician Top Pick
Anthony Ross: "Russian music and art are always fascinating to me. I think Tchaikovsky's Sixth is his greatest symphony. The Prokofiev is an unbelievable work for solo cello: it's extremely romantic and it's a tour de force for the soloist. If you like the cello, you'll love this piece!"
